Strut for me/ show me what you're working with

After watching the Grammy red carpet footage, it is very clear to me that many musicians have no idea what is going on in their own industry, and that is entirely unacceptable.

Entertainment Tonight had a little game where they had cue cards with song lyrics from "Poker Face" (HOT BITCH, LOVE YOU) and "Single Ladies" and "You Belong with Me," and they asked celebrities to identify the song or singer. Most of them had NO CLUE. I'm sorry? You claim that music is your One True Passion In Life, and you spend all your time immersed in music and with musicians, but you still have no idea what THE most popular songs in the country sound like? If you make Top 40 music, you should be familiar with Top 40 music - otherwise how are you relevant as an artist and a pop culture icon?

(There is, of course, an exception for any artist who has to say his name or his label's name at the beginning of his song. They don't actually count as artists. Autotune is the real winner there.)
