A Funny Catch-up Chat Quickly Takes a Serious Turn

So, this just happened on Facebook Chat, and I feel that it's very revealing of quite a bit of my personality and worldview. Just thought I'd share it. "CK" is my friend, and I'm (obviously) "Cookie."

CK: Oh, I have replaced you.
I have a new Gay Best Friend.

Cookie: WHAT. WHY WHAT???
REPLACED??

CK: lol jk jk

Cookie: YOU THINK I'M IRREPLACEABLE
TO THE LEFT TO THE LEFT

CK: You must not know bout me
LOL

Cookie: yesssss

CK: Love.

Cookie: this is why i'll always be your wifey

CK: I couldn't replace my wife, but I do have a new gay best friend.

Cookie: ...i'm not gay

CK: You are a gay man.
You are just trapped in a woman's body.

Cookie: that's an interesting concept, actually

CK: I mean, stranger things have happened.

Cookie: maybe i was liberace in my past life

CK: LOL
That would be.........queer

Cookie: that would be... predictable.

LATER (talking about Rock Hudson)
Cookie: oh yep, he died of AIDS

CK: aids sucks
OH DUDE
Did you hear about that guy who got cured of it using stem cells?

Cookie: YES, i posted that to my wall yesterday
fucking AMAZING

CK: It's SO heartening.
I hope they can move past embryonic and into umbellical
that'd be wonderful.

Cookie: they're almost there, embryonic stem cells are on their way out
i mean, we've regressed other stem cells to embryonic-like stages

CK: indeed.

Cookie: i didn't know you were against stem-cell research...

CK: I am against embyronic farming
But not against the research, no.

Cookie: oh ok
so, like... what does that mean in practical terms?

CK: I am cool with it for research purposes, but I don't want a state in which ladies have to give up their eggs like crazy to get fertilized for stem cell treatment

Cookie: so, under what circumstances is submitting an embryo for research okay or not okay, in your book?

CK: I dislike it in general, but I officially draw the line for when stem-cell therapy becomes mainstream
as I'm sure it will be eventually.
What say you?

Cookie: i believe that embryos are tiny human fetuses, and therefore should never be used for research that could destroy or harm said embryos
blah blah "life starts at conception" standard stuff

CK: lol
I agree

Cookie: i don't like fertility science in general
(says the woman who is VERY glad she has never gotten pregnant)

CK: But I think it's better if we don't throw out embryos that were used for like in-vitro
lol

Cookie: well, that's why in vitro is a problem for me as well
i don't think IVF should be used under any circumstances either

CK: Yeah. I can definitely see that.
I think it's great science, but I would never want my wife to have to go through it.

Cookie: i think that if you have to resort to such extreme measures to have a child, you should really consider adoption first (this speaking as someone who was adopted)

CK: Yeah
Troof.
I am definitely going to adopt
That's almost a given.

Cookie: because yeah, it sucks that it's hard to get pregnant sometimes, but there are a lot of people who have been pregnant TOO MANY times

CK: Regardless of whether or not I'm married.
Yeah. LOL.

Cookie: i don't WANT to adopt... oddly enough

CK: Orly?

Cookie: but as someone who was adopted, it's really important to me to give birth

CK: Por qua?

Cookie: weird, right?

CK: That is odd.
Just a personal thang?

Cookie: i'm very glad i was given up, because i got the life i wouldn't have had otherwise, but i know that there's a dark side to being adopted... i'm a special case because my mom is crazy, but sometimes i feel like it's impossible to live up to what my mom expected
and apparently
don't tell this to anyone

CK: I shant

Cookie: part of the reason my dad left is because
he realized a few years ago that he REALLY resented the fact that he wasn't able to have biological kids with my mom (who had massive uterine tumors)

CK: oh my

Cookie: yeah

CK: I didn't know that.

Cookie: so, that made me feel like shit

CK: Does that influence you to have kids?

Cookie: i didn't knwo it until a few months ago either!
oh, i want kids desperately, can't WAIT to get pregnant
but that makes me nervous to get MARRIED
kids, i can deal with. marriage terrifies me

CK: lol
I completely agree.
